Whoo-Hoo! ‘Beetlejuice 2’ Wraps Production In Vermont Says Director Tim Burton, After Film Had But One Day Left Of Filming When Actors Strike Started.
“Beetlejuice 2 is one step closer to hitting theaters.
Director Tim Burton announced that the sequel to his 1988 classic film has just wrapped production. The helmer posted a photo of himself on set, sharing the news that he and his cast and crew had finished filming. “Thank you to everyone involved,” he added.
The second film in the franchise sees the return of key characters from the first film, portrayed by Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. The sequel will also feature Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux in new roles. Sources previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the Ortega will play the daughter of Ryder’s Lydia.
Beetlejuice 2 kicked off production in May 2023, amid the start of the writers strike, as its script had been fully completed at that point by Wednesday showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. When the actors strike began in July, the film only had a couple of days left of production, but it shut down to abide by SAG-AFTRA rules.
With the performers strike over, the project was able to return to Vermont, where it was filming, and finish off what was left. “I feel grateful we got what we got,” Burton told The Independent in September of having to pause production. “Literally it was a day and a half. We know what we have to do. It is 99 percent done.”
In a conversation with Empire in June, Keaton opened up about what it was like returning to the role more than 30 years after the original.
“Beetlejuice is the most fuckin’ fun you can have working,” he told the publication. “It’s so fun, it’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie. There’s a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line — I want people to know this because I love it — tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move.”
Beetlejuice 2 is set to hit theaters Sept. 6, 2024.” – Hollywoodreporter.com
