Teen model/actor, Keean Johnson is filmed by director Casey Brooks in a reverse dance on the shores of Southern California’s LA coast set to a beautiful piano melody by Philip Glass.
New York-based director Casey Brooks recounts the special moment on El Matador beach in Malibu, California, when she captured 18-year-old dancer and Nashville actor, Keean Johnson, rising out of the waves (or, is he going back in?).
“I love how he becomes so mechanical as the piano speeds up”
“This was a spontaneous moment. Some dancer friends wanted to take me to this beach on my day off in LA. It was shot on my iPhone 6 because my other camera battery had died! The jittery effect happens when quick movement is reversed, but I love how he becomes so mechanical as the piano speeds up.
“I caught this in one-take, with Keean performing a piece by the choreographer Erica Sobol of collidEdance, which she’d originally choreographed to the Feist song “How Come You Never Go There?” But I think it works beautifully with Philip Glass’s “Mad Rush,” played here by pianist Sally Whitwell.” – Casey Brooks
