From Nowness.com comes a sweet short film from filmmaker Alice Stein.
Siblings Alice and Emily Stein chew over the fleeting nature of youth
Shot during the summer of 2015 on an East Hampton beach in Long Island, Bubblegum is a sun-soaked celebration of the transience of childhood from UK-based filmmaker Alice Stein and her photographer-sister Emily.
“Youth is not only to be celebrated as something brief, but to be enjoyed for its spontaneity”
Using the chewy stuff was “a practical way of drawing a fabulously diverse range of facial expressions” from a group of local kids, explains Alice, adding that the series of moving portraits “reminds us that youth is not only to be celebrated as something brief, but to be enjoyed for its spontaneity and individuality.”
The duo, who have only recently started collaborating, have both made children and teenagers the subject of much of their work, drawn to the “openness and honesty” of youth.
