Whoo-Hoo: Taylor Swift Would’ve Cleaned Up At The ‘Canceled’ 2023 MTV EMA Awards, Had It Happened…
“Taylor Swift would have been the big winner of the night, had the 2023 MTV EMAs gone forward as planned on Nov. 5. Just two weeks before the show was to take place in Paris, MTV canceled the awards, citing, “volatility of world events.” Instead, the network released the full list of winners on Sunday night, saying, “as fans worldwide voted for their favorite categories including best artist, best song and more, MTV is recognizing the following artists with 2023 MTV EMAs.”
Swift won three awards – best artist, best live and best video for “Anti-Hero.” Best US act, however, went to Nicki Minaj, who also took home the award for best hip-hop.
Jung Kook, who just unveiled his debut album, and Måneskin each won two awards. Jung Kook won best K-pop and best song for “Seven,” featuring Latto. Måneskin won best rock and best Italian act.
Paris’ own David Guetta received the award for best electronic.
The 2023 EMAs would usually broadcast on MTV in over 150 countries in addition to streaming online via Pluto TV and Paramount+. The event intended to feature performances from BTS’ Jung Kook, Reneé Rapp, Sabrina Carpenter.
“The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music,” Paramount said in a statement at the time of the cancelation. “As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning.”
